A phone-first website for a physiotherapy clinic in Liverpool

Stanley & Thomas Healthcare is a physiotherapy and pain management clinic in Liverpool that sees patients at the clinic, at home and from outside the UK. Rcorp is building its website and practice system phone-first, around one action: the patient books a call and the clinic rings them back.

The challenge

  • Most patients book from a phone, and many of them are older or in pain, so a desktop site squeezed onto a small screen would not work.
  • The clinic offers three kinds of appointment (at the clinic, at home and from abroad), and they are not the same, so each patient needs a different next step.
  • A 'call now' button puts a caller through to whoever picks up, with nothing known about where they want to be seen or what the problem is.
  • Appointments and enquiries count as health data, which has to be handled carefully under UK GDPR.
  • Healthcare advertising is regulated, so every claim the site makes has to be true and backed up.

The screens

What we built

  • Public website

Four pages: home, services, about and contact. The homepage is organised around 'where does it hurt, and where are you?', and the three routes are written in the patient's own words: I can get to you, I cannot get to you, I am not in the UK.

  • Appointment finder

It sits beside the homepage headline and asks where the patient wants to be seen and what the problem is. For home visits it also checks the postcode district before moving on to booking.

  • Book a call

The patient picks a day and a morning, afternoon or evening slot and leaves a name and phone number, then the clinic rings them. Every call to action on the site links to this step, from any page.

  • Data model for the practice system

A database schema for patients, appointments, clinical notes and an access log. Clinical notes are kept in their own table, with every access logged. It is ready for the booking and admin work still to come.

  • Built-in checks

Automated tests fail if banned professional claims come back into the copy. A pre-deploy check blocks going live until the clinic's legal trading details are filled in.

What it does

Built with

  • Next.js (App Router)
  • React
  • TypeScript
  • CSS Modules
  • Drizzle ORM
  • PostgreSQL
  • Vitest
  • One call to action on every page: Book a call
  • A rotating headline naming conditions the clinic treats, which stays still when the phone is set to reduce motion
  • Screen readers hear a single static sentence instead of the changing words
  • A postcode check that says whether a home visit is in the clinic's area
  • Callback days limited to the next five days, never Sunday, and today only before 6pm
  • A country field for patients booking from outside the UK
  • Book a call links work from any page, even with JavaScript turned off
  • No hamburger menu, and a Book a call bar at thumb height on phones
  • Details still missing show openly as 'to confirm' so nothing is made up

Where it stands

Related services

The site has not launched yet and is not deployed anywhere.

The public pages, the appointment finder and the Book a call step are built. The booking step is a preview for now: it checks what the patient enters and shows a confirmation, but saves and sends nothing, and says so on screen.

Still to build: saving call requests, the clinic's admin dashboard, the privacy and terms pages, onboarding and payments. Call requests stay switched off until the privacy notice is published.

Trading details, opening hours, therapist details and prices show as 'to confirm' until the clinic provides them.
