Care home management and a care-worker marketplace for a client
Vicarity is a commissioned platform that puts care home management and a marketplace of verified care workers into one system. Managers run rotas, care logs and CQC evidence at a desk, and care workers find shifts, check in and record care from their phones, all from one database.

The challenge
- Care homes have to fill shifts with their own staff and with outside care workers, and the platform was built to plan and cost both in one rota.
- Every worker on shift needs checks such as DBS, Right to Work and the Care Certificate, and each of these expires and has to be tracked.
- Homes have to show evidence against the CQC Single Assessment Framework, and that evidence comes from day-to-day records.
- Resident records count as special category data under UK GDPR, so each home's data has to be kept apart and every access logged.
- A temporary worker arriving for a shift needs to know about the residents, the risks and any recent incidents before they start.
The screens
Marketing site. The public landing page, pitching one platform for care homes and the care workers who staff them.
Manager dashboard. A care home manager's day at a glance: today's rota, care alerts, the live care-log feed, handovers, incidents and marketplace spend.
Unified rota. One weekly grid holding the home's own staff and marketplace workers, with unfilled shifts cascading to the marketplace.
Marketplace workers. The pool of verified marketplace care workers, each with a compliance score and shift history.
Care worker app. A care worker's phone home screen: next booked shift with briefing and directions, credentials, earnings and matched shifts.
Worker credentials. The worker's compliance passport: DBS, Right to Work and training, verified once and checked against every shift.
Care logs. The activity feed of care recorded against every resident, filterable by meals, fluids, repositioning, medication and more.
CQC compliance. Readiness scored against the CQC's five key questions, with the gaps and expiring credentials that need action.
Family portal. A resident's relative reading the care updates the home's staff have shared with them.
Worker earnings. Approved shift earnings and hours, with the payout account set-up and per-shift invoices.
Platform admin. The operator's console across all care homes: workers, residents, fill rate, verification queue and open incidents.
Care worker sign-up page. The public page recruiting care workers, as they would see it on their phone.
What we built
Manager web app
A desktop app for care home managers covering the rota, residents, care logs, incidents, handovers and CQC readiness. The dashboard shows today's rota, care alerts and marketplace spend on one screen.
Care worker mobile app
An installable web app (PWA) where marketplace workers find and accept shifts, check in by GPS, log care and keep their credentials up to date. It also shows their earnings and invoices.
Verified worker marketplace
Shifts the home can't fill with its own staff are posted to the marketplace automatically. A worker's credentials are checked against that home's requirements before they can book.
Family portal
Residents' relatives can read the care updates that staff choose to share with them.
Platform admin console
The operator's view across every care home, with workers, residents, fill rate, a verification queue and open incidents.
API and delivery pipeline
A documented REST and real-time API that a future native mobile app could use without changes to the backend. Each release was tested, built into containers and deployed automatically, and rolled back if the new version failed its health checks.

Where it stands
The platform was built with every planned feature and deployed to production with a separate staging environment, and each release shipped automatically with rollback if it failed its health checks.
The API is covered by 749 automated tests.
It is no longer live: the hosted service was taken offline on 17 August 2026, and the project is paused.
Card payments to workers were built but were only ever run in Stripe's test mode.
